Set in the lush Ziro Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, "The Apatani" pays tribute to the rich cultural heritage of the Apatani (or Tanni) tribe — a community known for its deep-rooted traditions and sustainable agricultural practices, recognized by UNESCO as part of a potential World Heritage site.

This artwork highlights the distinct identity of Apatani women, who were once easily recognized by their traditional facial tattoos and large cane nose plugs known as Yaping Hullo. These unique adornments, believed to have cultural and historical significance, are now fading from practice, with the tradition ending for women born after 1970.

"The Apatani" is both a visual homage and a quiet reflection on disappearing indigenous customs — preserving through art what time may soon forget.
